shouts of reds, yellows, and gold

permeate the air as Fall approaches. even here in the high desert it is changing colors. mostly from golden dry to leafless brown. but 'tis still Fall, none-the-less, and time to get ready to hunker down for a long winter comin'.

the end of summer. day dreaming through the window's as classes resumed. the warmth of the cloak room and smell of sweaty little bodies. remember raking the fall leaves? one good jump to spread them out and rake them up again. and then the cracklin' of the fire as the smoke filled the air for miles around. guess we can't do that any more. but it was good while it lasted.

so today, i trimmed out the branches of the trees in the front yard. someday i suppose i'll make it to the back and trim out the chinese elm. these trees look like "bad hair day" trees anyway and without trimming, well, they look like they just got up. good shade on hot summer days.

tomorrow i start my first full week at St. John's. training is over. there are lots of things to do. the biggest challenge will to gracefully transistion from PC to MAC. now i understand the secret of that eternal love affair....and yes, MAC does get my vote. LET ME AT IT.

the bulletins we printed for the weekend looked great. but 9:30 service was missing the installation announcement of a new ministry staff member. i think we were so busy editing from one another's desktops, the wrong one was sent for printing. the new Mac I have is less than two weeks out of the box and even L was struggling with it as she attempted to transfer 17 years of knowledge to me. not to worry. tomorrow brings opens the door for more learning....... but it is really great to go home each night with square, not bowled over, shoulders. it even beats retirement.

First of all, I've always found fall to be beautiful in the high desert.

Second, you triggered one of my favorite early-college memories. Our first semester at AVC, my BFF Kathy and I cut class and opted to jump in the leaves ~ right outside the classroom. Silly, foolish, chilidish - and wonderful.

Third, I am so excited and thrilled for your new job!!!
