banger
so i gotta tell you this.
i got home from my work on my birthday and helped mr p make the decision for dinner. taco bell. i ran to get it. do not be alarmed, this has been our way for many years. besides all that, i had forgotten the day was my birthday when i made arrangements with a girlfriend to have coffee whilst mr p was out playing pool as he normally does on wed. nites. so i get home and after chowin' down, mr p announces that he is going to go check the mail, something he may have done 3 other times in our married life that i can remember if i try really hard. i was sitting here...when he came back and as he came through the door he says, 'hey, g, whose dog is this?' my immediate reaction was, 'how the heck would i know??? its not like i know any of the neighborhood dogs - i don't even know the neighbors!' so i get up off my birthday butt and go to the door, and there was this little puppy dog coming thru from outside and i said, 'here puppy, here puppy' and that dog came running and jumped into my arms and started licking my face. she looked just like my ol' dusty dog that i love so much only she was smaller and blonde! and she told me her name was banger! but mr p said we could not keep her because it belonged to someone (even though it wasn't wearing a collar) long story short i agreed with mr mean, i mean mr. p, he would put it out when i left for coffee and if it ran a way, well it wouldn't be ours and if it stayed, we would keep it. so...it ran away. and i have been looking for her. i have even been checking the spca and county pound. he offered to take me to get another dog, but i don't want a dog...i just would want banger. she was EXACTLY the dog i was wanting and then she came to me for my birthday!!!! she was my birthday dog!!!!!! l at work said she would come back, but so far, no banger. i hope i find her.

Double Nickles: oh-one, twenty-seven
eeeeyup. its my birthday. yesterday i was in a meeting with my boss and i asked him if he knew of a different version of silent night, holy night; one that my sister-in-law learned as a child, 45 or 50 years ago. well my boss, he is a musician's musician...he is really really smart and of course he knew of it AND was able to find it, even. it was in a very old, very very, really really old book. we looked blankly at each other. lol. we both agreed we really did mean to live this long, however, we never thought we would "have the privilege" of saying to another, "i can remember 50 years ago..." or "when i was a little...., 50 years ago."
eeeeyup...i can remember 50 years ago. i can't remember yesterday. my marbles are dull and have lost their finish. they are chipped, but not broken; scattered, but not totally lost. in the words of my mother...."have not lost my facilities, yet!"
yeah right. sit down. you're old. wise, maybe, but the facilities...well their doors are closing.
age does have it's privileges. i think i am now a senior citizen at most places. i find myself conserving energy...not only my own, but making sure the thermostat is down, and double-paned windows are closed. don't forget to pull the blinds to regulate the heat. how about turning off the lights when you are not using them. i count change to pay at all drive thrus (a habit i actually started 5 years ago). i spend time on fatwallet.com looking for "daily deals". i clip coupons...and even use them. my favorite saying is, "well, that is not how we used to do it." i don't want to learn anymore...i am having trouble with stuff falling out of my brains now....it has to be overload.
yeah, i am 55. i am alive. i am blessed. life is good. God is better.
have a happy birthday, me!

mundane lane
so i am sitting here tonight going through old posts...ack...a writer i will never be and wondering what i could possibly post now. face it, it is a pretty mundane life i lead. i read through other people's posts and think life in general is pretty mundane for most of us. i just dont have a creative thought in me, i guess. otherwise i would, well okay, could create an adventure for myself. what would that be like? it could mean packin' it up and going....where? hmmmm. it could mean making a committment to thoroughly clean this house and sticking to it.....why? hmmmmmm. i know! we could rent a room to a writer / philosopher and carry on conversations of...........what? besides, just because one is a writer / philosopher doesn't make one ummmm....right? hmmmmmm. i kind of liked the story line of julie/julia....and very close to doing the same thing, that lady that lived a life of O(prah) for the last year, wrote a book, sold a million copies, geesh, who would have thought. i think i would rather live in a tent in my back yard for 365 days with only one pair of undies. american idol will be on in the next hour. people are crazy. plumb nutz. most of them should line up for pics on peopleofwalmart.com but i guess we all are entitled to and should actually dream. the question is, just how big should your dream be? oh look there, a commercial of ladies with really big curlers in their hair...what does that have to do with Jeep?
well i was just passin through.....i'll have to catch up with ya later. i think someone is knocking at my door [eyeroll]

New Year 20 10
New Year's Eve the party day of the year. Hah! Kissed 2009 good-bye and was in bed at 9; even slept through the fireworks that went off in the neighborhood.
This morning, though, what's on T.V. THE ROSE BOWL PARADE. Yay! I laugh quietly to myself as I remember this parade. I watched it twice in person. Well sort of.
When I was about 16 or so the highlight of my New Year's Eve was to baby sit. Guanteed big money, because for the married couples the evening started young with dinner and went late after ringing in the new year. This particular year, I got a call from my mom to join her and my brothers and sisters, an aunt and some cousins to go to Pasadena. I said yes, I mean, why not. Doesn't it just sound like a blast????? We got down there around 3 in the morning and piled out of the car. The older kids headed out to find some empty space to sit in while the two old ladies parked and found us later. We found a spot at the curbside and hunkered down in the cold of the evening to wait for the parade to start....5 hours later. As daylight broke most everyone around us began waking from their stupors from partying into the wee hours of the morning before we arrived. One of the guys next to us apparently thought we took their spots and started yelling at us to move out. Of course we didnt budge...Before i knew what happened, he was behind me, lifting me by the shoulders of my jacket, and throwing me backwards over his shoulders. Of course the cops came to break up the rest of the party and advised all of us to share the space we had and settle down for the rest of the time. So we did. And the parade was good.
The second time I went with two good friends. We were not quite 20 years old then. We packed up sleeping bags and snacks and took off for Colorado Blvd. It was after dark when we arrived in my little Chevy Vega. Why we decided to go down the Blvd. is beyond me, but we did. Millions of peeps already lined the street, staking out their spot for the parade in the morning. What we didn't know is if they would choose our car to rock and roll ~ a scary thought indeed. We just rolled up the windows and locked the doors. The crowd was C R A Z Y! We managed to get off the Blvd. unscathed, found a parking spot and hiked back to the action. Those not already sitting in the gutter were lined up against the business fronts. Weirdos. Gobs of them! I swear to this day the guy in the black trench coat and sunglasses was Woody Allen...okay, maybe his brother. We got out our sunflower seeds and sodas (yes, we were wild!) and started our own little party. At ten til twelve the rain started. As the clock struck twelve the downpour hit. At ten after twelve, we were packed up and heading for the car ~ soggy sleeping bags in tow ~ leaving the soggy crowd behind. We wound up in a sleezy hotel (even had a red light out front) in Burbank and fell asleep. 8 am....the parade came on tv. we watched for 10 minutes and left for home. e-yep. high times for this kid.
One of these days, maybe, if I ever do go back, I am going to buy a seat in the bleachers. In the meantime, Stephanie Edwards and Bob Eubanks remain quite the hosts of a grand parade ~ on TV.
Happy New Year!
