Birthday Celebrations

Well, we were all going to go to 'Poo Lake' yesterday to celebrate J's birthday, but it just didn't happen.

Saturday was spent spending money and stocking up for a special Sunday picnic.  We took the easy road and loaded up with sandwich makin's, ham, turkey, roast beef, sandwich rolls, tomatoes, lettuce, mustard, mayo, pickles, chips, dips, and drinks.  And don't forget Mom's famous Tater salad and deviled eggs (otherwise known to some of us as doubled eggs ~ go figure).

That was after a morning of yard and house work and then topped off by an hour of worship and praise in the evening.

Sunday morning, 4 am.  Coffee, a quick breakfast, watering the yard, and loading the boat.  Then the big, job.....lets see if this baby will start up.  Long story short, no it did not.  Dead battery.  AAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

Unload the boat, notify the invitees, wash the boat, take the boat back to the shop where it was serviced less than a month ago,,,,,,

Hmmmm...entertainment value....the card i bought J.....i thought it was a bit odd that the card division was named  "mohogany" but didn't "get it" til i looked closer at the picture.  back to the store for a new card AND a new cake pan.  with a lid even.  back home, cake baked, frosted, all in the nick of time to welcome the guest of honor, the 25 yearold J.  and you think she's old .......LOL....her daddy is ancient.

so we picnicked in the house, watched the dogs give chase in the living room and just enjoyed each other's company.

30 minutes after they left....the snores set in and we were out like lights.

Doubt we'll get the boat in the water this summer.....the rest of the weekends are booked up tight.  Where did the summer go?  School starts in two weeks.  

life in the fast lane....thats all i can say.

It's Good to be Back

What a weekend that was.  My pony-tail must have been too tight.

and today...it was 69* @ 5:00 am.  that means we are out of the 100's for a whole week.  i might even get back on my bike to work campaign.

100+ years between us

just sitting here ready to close out the day.  

it was a long one.  only two of us at work today.  was pretty busy, but we got 'er done.

yep, yep, happy 25, my baby bajoobee.  

quarter of a century for you,  frightening to think both of my kids have now passed the 1st milestone.  

its been fun.   i am sure with more to come......

perplexities

i don't cook much.  actually i don't cook often.  if i can, i will finagle my way out of committing to producing breakfast, lunch, dinner, and anything in between.  tonight i "ran" to costco to get dinner ~ this time i was going to serve up some enchiladas.  i really thought i had a good thing going until i got home and read the instructions.  OVEN 325* (4) 40 - 50 minutes. this was not a good thing, but i was kind of committed so i went through with it.  its a good thing our heat wave #3 actually broke today as it only reached 99* but still, the ac does have to work harder when you run the oven.  yes, i know i could have nuked it, saving time and energy but i didn't really want to look "that" lazy.  so into the oven went the enchiladas.  

I ask you....have any of you ever served up costo enchiladas?  if yes, maybe you can answer me this.  if not, go buy some and tell me what you think.  they taste mmmmmmmmmmmm decent, not nummy, but they do fill the spot and again, you're not really having to cook them.  but here's the deal.  i heated them up as directions said.  and we ate them.  they are even going to be lunch for some of us (gee, i wonder who gets a lunch everyday?).  and then, it was time to put the left overs into the fridge.  i took off the aluminum foil i covered the dish with and attempted to put the lid back onto it BUT it did not fit.  thats right.  when purchased, enchiladas were in a plastic serving dish with a plastic lid ala costco.  you take the lid off, cover with foil and pop into the oven for 40 - 50 minutes.  the lid fit just fine when i bought them, but after going into the oven, the dish no longer fit the lid.  the dish shrunk but at least 1/2 inch.  i know, you are thinking, "impossible!"  but i am telling you the truth.

so if any one can 'splain this to me, please do.  and do not attempt to tell me i should not be putting plastics in the oven and/or microwave to cook in.  i will however, consider that line of thought, because that shrinking plastic had to have gone somewhere.

and while youre at it,,,if you know how to get ride of this stupid underline and blue ink,,, let me know that too.

Weather or Not

did you ever notice that when one doesn't have a whole lot to say, the conversation turns to weather?  Tonight's topic; weather.

it's hot.  not as hot but still hot.  over 100 today, the start of our third heat wave for 2009.  they are saying that by the weekend we will be back in the high 80's.  now that would be novel.  

but the other thing that i learned about weather is that last friday was the zenith for the high temperatures in this part of the country.  we are now on the down side of hot and slowly it will get cooler now.  

they have more things bundled up in rugs of statistics than you can shake a finger at!  although it was nice to know that statistically thinking, the hot weather is on its way out, but really,,,,you know as well as i we are going to linger in the 100's for the next two months.  and that doesn't even get us past the proverbial indian summers that spend their days with us come october.

i do not know how i made it through my pre-nuke summers.

The persons and personalities we meet and share here on the internet belong to real people.  This is a mighty, powerful tool and used inappropriately it can and does cause harm.
