"do you remember tanya lala***?" (names have been changed to protect the innocent)the kid asks as she starts to relate a new episode of her life.
"uh no, who would that be?"
"you know, i went to school with her."
"uh no, did she come over and visit a lot? what school? tell me more about her."
"why? i knew her. i went to school with her. i am just asking, i don't need a yes or no."
"hmmmm," my brain kicking into gear. "tell me more about her, when did you know her."
"thats not important...do you remember her?"
"uh no, but if you give me some more information i might be able to connect"
"never mind. i'm over the story"
does anyone realize that when they speak to some one "quite a bit older" there is going to be some lag time involved because it takes longer for the older brain to connect. we have to shuffle through quite a few more years of memories. give it a chance!
"well thats how it is."
"fine, go to your friends house. maybe they can remember tanya lala."
Happy Thanksgiving : )
